Challenge:
As an international engine manufacturer, DEUTZ is confronted with increasingly complex legal requirements - the current emission stage EU Stage V is just one example among many; other jurisdictions such as China or the USA have their own requirements for type approvals. The issue of the relevant certificates is a prerequisite for delivering engines for applications and markets that require approval. The goal of the project was to manage these certificates, check all orders for their approval status and ensure that the engines are built in accordance with certification. Various company departments, such as research and development, sales, production and quality management, were involved in the project.

Project goal:
The goal of the project was to implement a DEUTZ emissions compliance management solution which ensures throughout the entire order-to-delivery process that only engines are configured, ordered, assembled and delivered which have a valid type approval. Additional project goals included the creation and management of approval data for rating plates, change management and the transfer of data from different sources into a holistic SAP solution.

Solution:
After a preliminary study with the company SI PRO GmbH, DEUTZ decided to implement an emissions compliance management solution integrated in the SAP system. The type approvals were mapped to the SAP Environment, Health, and Safety Management System (EHS) and made available for order verification. Using SAP product structure management (SAP PSM) the engine components, which are relevant to certification, were functionally structured and mapped in the SAP system. Based on this, these parts can be compared with the existing approvals - always depending on the target region of an engine, so that all regulatory requirements relevant to DEUTZ are supported. Approval data for rating plates were also provided. The new solution offers DEUTZ both better transparency in terms of data quality and a consistently integrated solution where previously isolated tools were used.
