The objective of the collaboration was to implement SAP Product Compliance in order to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as REACH SVHC, RoHS, and other substance-related prohibition and declaration lists.

At the same time, the project aimed to establish a future-proof platform capable of efficiently supporting new regulatory obligations, particularly those related to the SCIP database of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

As part of the SAP S/4HANA transformation project, SAP Product Compliance was fully integrated into the new SAP landscape of the Czech plant. The new solution minimizes regulatory risks and provides the foundation for an efficient and scalable Product Compliance strategy in a discrete manufacturing environment.

Before the technical implementation began, a comprehensive analysis of the existing compliance processes was carried out together with the responsible business departments. In addition to regulatory requirements, the project also took into account the specific challenges associated with complex project-based and plant engineering processes.

A particular focus was placed on integrating project bills of materials (project BOMs) into SAP Product Compliance. Due to the high degree of product customization and project-specific product structures, it was essential to ensure transparent compliance assessments for individual configurations.

During the blueprint and design phase, various scenarios were evaluated, potential risks were identified, and the future compliance processes were seamlessly integrated into the SAP S/4HANA landscape. This structured approach laid the foundation for a smooth and successful implementation.

The implementation focused on establishing an integrated compliance product structure within SAP Product Compliance. By integrating material master data and project bills of materials, multi-level product structures could be automatically incorporated into the compliance assessment process.

To further improve data exchange with suppliers, the project also included the alignment and integration of supplier communication processes using the Opesus Product Compliance Collaboration solution. This enables structured supplier communication and the efficient collection of compliance-relevant information directly within the integrated process landscape.

In addition, Opesus EHS Product Notification was implemented and seamlessly integrated into the SAP processes. The solution supports the automated creation and management of SCIP notifications as well as the transmission of data to ECHA.

As a result, the manual effort required for SCIP reporting was significantly reduced, while at the same time ensuring a consistent compliance data foundation within SAP S/4HANA. The new solution also enables transparent tracking of missing compliance information, improved data quality, and the efficient creation of regulatory declarations and compliance documentation.
